- Dinner time discussions around feelings associated with going to a new school. This may include stories you have about your own experience and how it turned out
- Reminders of other new things they've done that we're scary at first but turned out well
- An escape plan. What to do if things go horribly wrong
- Spending time with your child in the first day or even first week or more until they feel safe and settled
- Letting children be involved in the discussions around and decision regarding which school they go to in the first place or at least discussing your reasons for choosing the school you did.
