So I meet a tourist on the street who asks me for directions to get to Gold Reef City for example. I explain where it is and possible ways of getting there – busses, taxi’s, Youth Hostel tour groups etc. I finish explaining and the tourist then just stands there and doesn’t move or walks round in circles. They then say something like this: “Well, I’m not there yet?!? Your directions suck. I haven’t arrived there.”
You’d find this odd, no? Obviously if the person wants to get there they actually need to follow the directions and actually take some action.

And yet this is what most of us are doing in some way or another all the time. I see it with my coaching clients who go through a whole process of change and then don’t take the actions required to keep the change and transform the rest of their lives. They then cannot understand why they’re starting to slip back into old habits and patterns, when what they’ve effectively done is to take a few steps and then stop and never reach the desired destination.
Haven’t you ever done that? You read an incredibly inspiring book that lays out direct action steps necessary to reach the place that the author has, and you get all excited and do it for a few days or weeks and then forget about it.
There is no point in reading parenting books, or taking self-help courses or going for coaching if you’re not prepared to then take action and stick with it until you see definite results. If you’re going to do anything to improve your life and the life or your kids, then make a commitment to it.
You can live your dreams, you can have a happy family, you can earn the extra cash that you need – and you have access to all the information you need to get you to your destination - so start walking!
If you’re going round in circles again, find yourself a good coach who can give you a push in the right direction.
Keep on walking, keep on smiling, and keep on being the change that you want to see in your kids!
